Being trapped in the midwest for months made me miss the diversity and culture of the east coast. So it wasn’t a surprise that I acted like a complete tourists during my one day getaway to NYC.
I ate at a petite Cuban restaurant, strolled through Little Italy, admired the hustlers in Chinatown, and took a moment to pose in front of every uniquely designed street art or mural. It was a one of kind adventure.
Take a look.

Being in Chinatown reminded me of my summer trip to Yangzhou, China where I taught English. Locals openly displayed their products to sell to potential buyers. And if you were not interested, then you were better off keeping it moving because they had no problem with telling you to do so.

2. Hustlers
I never thought I would admittedly agree that I missed the hustle and overcrowding streets of NYC. Don’t get me wrong, I use to love when me and my BFF, Val, would leave college on the weekends to run the streets of New York. But when I somehow converted into a granny (twenty five and up), all of that action started to get on my last nerves. But not anymore, I fell back in love with the city.

3. Posers
Fake it until you make it, right? That’s what you are supposed to do. Pretend to be busy. Exaggerate the truth. And simply do whatever necessary to allude to the fact that you’re important. You are important. Oh, NYC, you’ll so full of character.

4. Diversity
One thing for sure, I missed the diversity. Yes, Little Italy isa small neighborhood of its own; BUT the faces that strolled through that area were not all Italians.

5. Jewels
You can find the most random places that in turn are jewels in a sea of sharks. (Does that make sense? I’m good at messing up an old saying. lol. You get what I am trying to say, right?) Anyway, stopping for Cuban food with parmesan cheese covered corn that was sprinkled with freshly squeezed lime juice was a m a z i n g. Then, to top things off, I discovered the cutest petite tea shop. Simply adorable.
Blissful.
6. Street Art & Murals
There’s no denying that I was born to love art–color, designing, performing, and creating is my thing. Bless the hands of the artists of these local murals and street art.
Well, that’s it. Those are some of the things I miss about being on the east coast, particularly in NYC.
Until next time, Xo.
