As a visionary, can you believe I’ve never created a vision board?  It’s not that I was opposed to the idea, I was just content with jotting down my goals in my journal.

But this year, I decided to take a different route.  I wanted to see what the hype was all about in creating a vision board. So I made it a date night project for me and the Mr.

In his mind, he assumed a poster board with magazine graphics would be just fine.  Little did he know, there was a much cuter idea harvesting in mine.

Check out our creative, functional, vision boards that will be used in my study and craft area.  They are the perfect visuals for our goals this year.

Follow the instructions below to create your own.

TIME: 45 minutes-1Hour

Materials:  glue, magazines, scissors, picture frames

#1 “l’ll be right back. I’m just going to run in here to see if they have some wooden frames that gives a vintage look.”

 Lesson: Backwards plan. What will the ending presentation look like? Although there is nothing wrong with an old fashion poster board, I, personally, wanted something functional and decorative, like a picture frame, that would look attractive in my study area.

Suggestion(s): If using a poster board or picture frame, hot glue artificial flowers along the frame of your board. This will make it more eye-catching.

 

#2 “Have you written out your goals, yet?”

Lesson: Brainstorm and jot down SMART goals. This means your goals should be S=specific, M=measurable, A=achievable, R=realistic, and T=timely. In other words, can you obtain your goals within a year? Are you being realistic? For instance, if you want to be a home owner or buy a brand new car, be specific and list the type of car or home you would like. Will it be a BMW or a town home?  Be SMART.

Suggestion(s): Go down your list and put a check next to your SMART goals. Consider adding those items to your vision board, only.

#3 “I can’t find anything.”

Lesson: Think outside of the box. The images and words won’t pop out at you. Instead, you have to cut, combine, and paste uncommon images together to get what you want. And that is ok.

Suggestion(s): Cut out as many images and words that resonates with you. Then, build your own words, phrases, images, and etc.

#4 “Presentation is everything.”

Lesson: Take your time. Make sure it is neat, organized, and eye-catching. Sloppiness and rushed work will never hold a place on my wall. There’s a trashcan for that.

Suggestion(s):  Do your best work.  Make sure your images are free of raggedy ends by giving it a clean trim.  Use arts and crafts scissors for your edges, too. Organize and paste your images in specific categories.
